The setting up of NMAS was not a planned initiative from the start, in actual reality it came about by coincidence. A friend (Brian Cameron) and I were training in Keiss hall one night when a couple of kids that were watching us asked if they could join in as well, I said yes. So the following week I started teaching a kids class and another friend of Brian’s came along to train as well. That was basically how we started. We booked the hall in Keiss for a Tuesday night (indefinitely) and the club took off. Our first season was on 3/05/2000. The club was doing nicely; we had kids from all around the Keiss area and as far away as Lyth coming to train. The adult class consisted of students from Wick to John O’ Groats. Unfortunately things took a turn for the worst, as the bowling season started we were suddenly not permitted to use the hall on a Tuesday, so I decided (I had no choice) to relocate, to a new training hall, The Boys Brigade Hall in Wick. The good thing about the Boy's Brigade hall is that once we asked for Tuesday night, it was guaranteed as ours, we never have to worry if something else is on. The first class took place here on 03/10/2000. Now as of the 13th October 2003 the Wick branch has moved to a more modern building which is The Wick Youth Club. Later on a few people approached me from Thurso to set up a class there, again we approached the Boy's Brigade for the use of their hall and they agreed. We originally trained on a Friday but as of late we have moved to a Wednesday night. This club opened on the 11/08/2000. For more details on what we do (training wise) see the introduction page. The clubs were affiliated to the FAOGB, headed by Hanshi Peter Browne 7th Dan. As of December 2003 NMAS has become a member of BUSHIN INTERNATIONAL headed by Shihan David Wilson. It is a new pan European organization with a rich new outlook on the development of Martial Arts of all styles. Endeavouring to bring together a wide range of martial arts and masters in the creation of an atmosphere that enables the synthesis and enhancing of these styles in a demonstrative and agreeable environment. Bushin International is not a political organization, but one that has evolved to enhance the development and betterment of martial arts itself. We are very honoured to be asked to join this organization at its inception. We look forward to a long, fruitful and happy correlation. |
